“short battery time? i bought it last couple of days. I dont know if my unit is defective or it is the way it is but i can only use it for half an hour on battery with a close to max volume. any idea? should i return it for a different one?”

I would return it if you fully charged it. If I recall it says it takes about 6 hours to fully charge. I charged mine for 8 prior to going fully wireless just to give that lithium battery some good saturation. Ran for over 4 hours at 70% volume. I haven't timed it for an accurate number - claims are 5ish in the specs.

Now as the battery wears down it does turn itself down a little to conserve power. This little speaker has 60 watts of power at full volume so keep that in mind. I get 3 hours on average at 2 3rds volume
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The reason why you are getting a short run time is because the Li-Ion battery in the unit is probably almost three years old. Li-Ion technology tends to chemically degrade over time, weather it is used or not. All Li-Ion batteries have an "expiration" date from date of manufacture. Given the fact that this Onyx speaker has only a 2600 mill amp hour Li-Ion battery, it's capacity has dropped over the years and will drop even further as time passes to a point when the cell's protection circuit will kick in and prevent it from ever taking a charge. It seems the Onyx 2 is discontinued now and its getting cleared out because of this. Remember, this issue applies to ALL Li-Ion powered devices as it is a technology limitation.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I got 2hrs or more at 50% volume. It didn't cut out, power icon was just flashing. You gotta understand a speaker of this quality draws more power. The reason those little Coke can speakers last so long is the speakers are very low power. It says *up to* 5 hours, which surely doesn't mean full volume. Especially not if bass heavy. So lower the volume some when you need longer battery, or even try an equalizer app to minimize the bass, which draws more power. Personally, I don't mind the trade offs. It's such a great speaker.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.That should not be the case, if you charged it "well" (like over night) before you used if for the first time, and it runs flat so quickly... then return it for a new one (swap it out).
