“Do you have to have a cell phone with at&t to get this device or can I have it on its own plan by its self”

• No, But the device from Best Buy will not work because you cannot get a sim card that works with it. Must buy from ATT. I spent weeks and a lot of hours to finally get it working. Maybe 2 hours with support because they send a code to the device which you can never receive.
