I just purchased this TV a few weeks ago. First of all I have found it loud so just know that you won't need to turn the volume up very much for use. To answer your question, I have not found that I need any additional devices to use the preloaded apps. However, you will need a subscription for some of the apps such as Netflix, Vudu, Amazon Video, Fandango Now. Some of them such as Pandora, you just have to register with an email. Some though you can just use like Youtube and the preloaded games that come with it. Overall, the TV is nice. The picture quality is great. It is easy to set-up and fits well in the space that I had on the stand.
