“Does this model have motion smoothing (the "feature" that gives everything that "soap opera" look)? And if so, can it be turned off?”

Ugh, I loathe that feature on modern TVs! Yes, it has that setting, which was the very first thing I turned off after turning the TV on the first time. It was easy to find in the Picture Settings menu. With that setting off, everything looks as it was intended when shot.
