I live in a small apartment and sit a few feet away also, and upgraded from TCL 6 series from a few years ago. First thing I watched was upscaled tv program from the 70s. It wasn't even in 16:9 format, and I was blown away by the picture. Most of the content we watch is 1080p or less, mostly bought the TV for PS5. Am glad to say all content looks light years better than old TV, which was very good in its own right,

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you are going to be 7-10’ away, a 65’’ is probably not your best choice, and 55’’ might be more suitable. Upscaling can only emulate the signal native to higher resolution. I do not hesitate recommending this TV basis my early experience. If it only lasts a year, it would still be a bargain(running 24/7). Check the Tech reviews, you will be amazed.
