All of these types of ac's will need to be drained at some point. How often depends on your use and area. This one is really nice in that it has 2 different drains. One at the base for basic use that you would only need to use once in a while if you only use AC mode and you are not in a high humidity area. It has a drain light that comes on when time to drain. The other drain hole is higher up and it comes with a drain hose to attach. You would only need to use it if you run the dehumidifier. Its a good design that they put this drain higher up on the unit this allows the hose to hang down into a bucket or pail without having to place unit on a stand. Both drain openings have a plug inserted and so farno leaking.
