Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes...it does need to vent to an outside place. The hose gets hot, like you might expect from the heat which comes out of a window unit (if you've ever felt the heat coming out of a window unit).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can purchase pieces of extension hose in the same construction, and a collar that will join the factory provided hose to the extension hose. In theory, you could build out a hose that is as long as you want in order to reach the closest window or sliding door. Keep adding extension pieces. The trouble is that the hose radiates the heat that passes through it on it's way to discharging out the window or slider opening. So there's an offset in efficiency. Still, during murderous heat waves, the loss in overall cooling impact because you are running a heated hose through living spaces may still be worth it. Anyway, that's an issue with the primary hose as well. I've considered creating some sort of temporary insulation around the hose for the days and nights when it must run pretty far in to my living room. Another thing worth thinking about, the plastic inserts for sliders or windows can be added to with duct tape and thin, rigid plastic sheets that you trim down to fit. This is also an area of cooling efficiency. I've read people use thick cardboard, and that may be better, but in general, you are facing a DYI situation when using this unit with sliding doors. Still, worth every penny. And with thought, you can build out a nice blocking system on the hotter end of the unit. For very little money. And get the cool air where you want it to go. It's always going to be an issue with consumer grade portable units but once addressed, not a problem.
