comes with filters that you replace and an indicator that tells you when ... the turbo mode rids the air of heavy garlic & kitchen asmells pretty quickly and effectively so am assuming the same for paint smells, etc.

Yes. It comes with filters. Can't speak to whether it would take out paint fumes. I like the unit. Quiet running and freshens the air in the house.
