We know how important setting up the electrical connection for your dryer is, and we’re glad to advise. While direct wiring is an option, it’s not usually a requirement; a power cord with a 3-wire or 4-wire connection, depending on your home’s wiring, can be used and plugged into an outlet. We don’t recommend using a previous power cord from another dryer, to ensure performance and safety. Most electrical dryer power cords will be sold separately to make sure they comply with all state and local wiring codes (these codes can vary significantly by location). Either the local dealer or ordering from our GE Parts department at 1-877-959-8688 is usually the best option for getting the correct cord. You may want to review the Installation Instructions on our Hotpoint website; if you look up the model number and go to the product page, that will be linked. Instructions for connecting an electric dryer start on page 9. That includes details on the type of cord and how to choose the right one for your house’s electrical system. We hope this helps. If you have any other questions or concerns, we’re happy to assist any time. Best wishes! -Sarah@Hotpoint
