The short answer is "it depends". Electrical outlets and voltages are not the same throughout the continent. If the country you're going to has 110 volt power and the same plug as in the US, it will work without a converter. Because the laptop isn't "dual voltage", any country that uses 220 volt power will need a "step down" transformer to reduce the voltage to 110. And if the country uses a different electrical plug, you'll need an adapter to fit the socket in that country.
