You can upgrade it to 32gb. The board has two sockets, one available and the other occupied by a micron 8gb 3200mhz ddr4 stick. I managed to upgrade it myself with a Samsung 8gb 3200mhz ddr4 stick and it works fine in dual channel. There is a dead bay for a 2.5 data drive that I cannot find out if it would support. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are laptops that are made to be easily upgraded in the two areas, RAM and permanent memory. These generally include those made for gaming or business, rather than casual use. If HP points out that the RAM is not "user accessible," it doesn't necessarily mean what that implies. It does generally mean that the warranty will be voided by such action if undertaken by any but HP-licensed technicians. If you like this particular laptop, and you are definitely interested in adding RAM, but don't want to pay the additional fee for a technician to perform the upgrade, my suggestion is that you research the procedure involved. YouTube is an excellent site for this. You then will be able to weight the pros and cons, costs vs. your confidence in your skills, and possibility of losing your warranty rights. The decide for yourself.

There is an additional memory slot, however, it is not user accessible. We recommend that upgrades be performed by a professional technician. Geek Squad can assist you with upgrades.
