I don't know about this laptop, but I have tried installing Windows 8.1 on other HP laptops I have owned that came with Windows 10 and I can honestly say it usually will give you an error message saying the older version of Windows you are trying to install was not designed for the computer. I tried it several times with other laptops and it ended up not being worth the trouble. My last time doing it Windows would not activate so I had to reset the laptop. Since the HP computers come pre-installed with the OS and drivers, you may run into issues with getting your Windows 7 operating system to work. The last time I looked Windows 7 drivers for HP computers were still available, but not for Windows 8.1 which is what I was trying to install. Then after I successfully installed it a few times, Microsoft blocked updating Windows then bombarded me with messages to upgrade to Windows 10 which is what I was trying to stay away from. I found it wasn't worth the trouble especially since I could not update Windows.
