Hi Bob, this monitor has the settings 1 through 5 as you have noted. The fastest response time would be level 5. It has "Fastest" next to the level 5 so be sure to select that if you want the fastest response time!

So its telling you how long it will take between when the computer sends the signal to when it displays that image on the screen. Your graphics card will need to be able to support the speed but even if it cant the faster monitor (being a 1) will be able to handle it if you upgrade to a better graphics card in the future.
