- Answer I just got the printer and so I can't speak from experience, but I doubt that it will print if you allow the color cartridge to go empty. Primarily because that would be a poor business model for HP, but also because I read that the ink acts as a lubricant in printers.

- Answer The short answer is yes. The information that printed during the setup process says "you can use this printer to print documents and photos on your mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet). For more information, visit the HP Mobile Printing website (www.hp.com/go/mobileprinting)." It can automatically detect when one of three sizes of paper have been loaded. Currently, these sizes are letter (8 1/2 x 11 inches), 5 x 7 inches, and 4 x 6 inches. You can configure the printer to detect different sizes by using their app or going to the printer's home page.

- Answer I'm guessing that it will. I was able to print & scan from my Pixel2 Android phone. You need to download their app for it to work, and the app is available for iOS, android, and Windows operating system.

- Answer Yes, you can use your Hotspot. Or you can use WiFi Direct. Wireless Direct (WiFi Direct) allows you to directly connect to printer from a mobile device or computer without the need for internet access or a wireless network. You would connect to the printer’s wireless direct signal just like you would connect to a wireless network. The printer would have a unique name in your wireless connections, i.e. Direct-04-Printer.
