Hello, you can add RAM and an SSD memory device externally yes, but you would not replace the internal components, it would be in addition to what is internally. Thank you for being an HP customer.

Second, technically, Random Access Memory (RAM) is not external, it is very fast, short term, internal memory that the CPU directly uses as it functions. It is erased when the device is powered off. External memory (outside of the laptop, typically hard disk drives, solid state drives, flash/thumb drives, media cards) is permanent storage until erased or damaged and is much slower than internal RAM but can be added to any computer via a port and/or cable if you have available ports. If HP confirms you can add or replace memory internally, it's a better, faster option but may be more expensive. Also, expanding internal memory (RAM or drive) may mean replacing rather than just adding; it depends on available slots, how much you are adding and compatibility.
