• This HP Printer has single-cartridge mode. To use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP ENVY 7640 series with only one ink cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage. During single-cartridge mode, the printer can copy documents, copy photos, and print jobs from the computer. To Exit single-cartridge mode Install two ink cartridges in the HP ENVY 7640 series to exit single-cartridge mode.

• No, it will continue to use what it has and the color will get really skewed by the absence of the correct colored ink…pretty soon everything will be a nauseating shade of pink. It seems to happen really fast too. Probably by the time you read this the sad truth will be apparent to you.
