A:AnswerDave, I have no idea what the ink is made of. I use it for general printing and it prints a nice page. I have not tried it with photo paper or anything that requires a high quality picture. It is a very nice general all purpose printer. Much better that previous generations. I would go to HP.com for technical details. If I'm printing pictures and looking for real high quality. This is not the right machine for that purpose.
