Generally people plug in devices like keyboards, mice, and printers in the back. These devices don't need to be faster than USB 2.0. The 3.1 ports are on the front to be handier for devices that really use the extra speed, like flash or external drives.

They’ll function normally, but only at USB 2.0 speeds. " I am assuming you were concerned about plugging a 2.0 into a 3.0 port - according to this - it would be no problem. Hope this helps.
