“Is the DVD burner in this some sort of weird HP proprietary drive, or just a standard off the shelf burner? I ask because I tend to go through optical drives pretty fast. I can easily replace it, but not if it's HP-specific.”

• The DVD burner seems to be rather flimsy, and the installation is vertical. The computer itself is great! Don't know if the drive is Proprietary or not.
