I can't answer the motherboard question but the GPU is good. It'll handle new games without issue, just maybe not at the highest settings depending on the game, but it may not handle VR very well. I'm not sure what power supply is in this but could easily upgrade the GPU for a few hundred more. However, HPs current Envy Phoenix model 860-170VR is the same price ($1,299) but has a much better GPU and also better processor, the i7-6700K. So based on price, this offer at Best Buy isn't a good deal.
