• Update to my previous answer: No Router Needed I just bought the HP 7155 and am setting it up. In the set up instructions it states that you can use the printer wirelessly without a router using WiFi Direct. Make sure it is enabled on the printer. Then from your smartphone or any device with the app you can print directly. You can go to www.hp.com/go/wifidirectprinting for info. So, again, you are able to print without a router.

• Having a home-router is not a requirement, but definitely makes it easier to use!

• If you want to print only from your computer or notebook you do NOT need a router. You would need to buy a USB printer cable and connect the printer to your computer or any other device with a USB port. For other functions like WiFi Direct printing it probably is necessary. I am not sure though.
