Intel and AMD are both chip makers who are competitors. Intel may be more widely known and favored by some individuals. The AMD Ryzen 5 processor is generally equivalent to the Intel Core i5 processor. On various benchmarks the Ryzen 5 may beat the i5 on some specs, but they are equivalent in power for most peoples use. Ryzen processors are competitively priced, so a similarly spec'd Ryzen 5 laptop may be less expensive than a laptop with a Core i5 Intel processor.
