I too wondered the same thing, but ended up purchasing this newer model. Here is what I found: - This model has two USB 3.0 ports and one Type-C port vs three USB 3.0 ports and no Type-C port. This is a newer technology, but we can expect to see more devices using this Type-C port in the future. - The hard drive is faster in this model, at 7200 rpm vs 5400 rpm. This is a big deal when it comes to speed and load times. - The screen edges are thinner vs the thicker bezel on the clearance model. - This model is built for Windows Ink. This enables you to write, draw or sketch using a separately sold stylus pen. (You might be able to do this on the clearance model, but I am not exactly sure). - The HP logo on the outer casing has a more modern, upgraded appearance vs the traditional one. There are a few other minor differences, but the ones I listed above are the major ones I noticed. Hope this helps!
