• The computer needs to be connected to the printer to secure wired printing option. If you are doing wireless then just have the printer connected to an outlet but make sure the computer and printer are communicating through the installation process. If you have issues you can call HP for technical support.

• Yes, it can be used in copy/scanner mode by just plugging it into an outlet. Until you connect it to a printer or to a wireless network, you will not be able to print to it. I did this for my wife until I was able to install the driver for it the next day.
