“Is there an option or setting to just use the black ink only or will the color cartridge have to be taken out?”

• I have always had to replace the color cartridge before the device will print with black ink again. Unfortunately this seems to be an issue since they redesigned the printer a few years back. Since then I buy XL cartridges only. They seem to last a lot longer.

• Good question. Yes, this printer has single cartridge mode. The color cartridge does have to be taken out for single cartridge mode to work. I hope this helps.
