“if the colored ink runs out on 5740, can i still use just the black? or i have to buy the colored ink everytime?”

• This HP Printer supports single cartridge mode, to Use the single-cartridge mode to operate the HP Officejet 5740 series with only one ink cartridge. The single-cartridge mode is initiated when an ink cartridge is removed from the ink cartridge carriage. During single-cartridge mode, the printer can copy documents, copy photos, and print jobs from the computer.
