• no, each cartridge is separate and you can still print - but quality will suffer if you are missing a color that is needed for your print job.

• yes! get the instant ink program, probably better, they ship it right to your house and easy, your printer lets them know when you need more ink, cheap too.

• HP recommends that you replace any missing cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues and possible extra ink usage or damage to the ink system. Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing.

• I recommend joining HP Instant Ink. Basically, your printer will order before you know it's about to run short and in shows up at your door for one low price not based on how much ink you use, but how many pages you print per month. Just Google "HP Instant Ink"
