If you belong to Instant Ink and use a non-Instant Ink cartridge, it may not recognize the cartridge. If that is not the problem, the printer head may be clogged with dry ink. HP's history with crappy printer heads dates back years and is not just an issue with this model. The problem is that they can't be replaced without a considerable expense. It is just easier to buy another printer. HP should be taken to barn and taken to task on this issue. I like their printers over other companies printers, but their ink heads go out about every 3 - 5 years for me.

This is usually the result of turning off the printer for a period of time. You can try doing the internal head cleaning through the menu system, but prepare to do it multiple times to get the ink flowing again.
