QuestionWhen was this printer made? Which HP printer with these features is the latest made. I like the scanner on top.

- Answer It was first made in mid 2016, and discontinued in mid 2019. The current replacement would be either the OfficeJet Pro 8025e or 8035e. Both of those printers have a document feeder on top for copying.

QuestionIs it going to be a problem if I don't print very often? Some of the reviews say that it fails if you turn it off for a couple weeks and then turn it in to print. Is this true? I've never had to clean printer heads and don't want any issues.

- Answer I have had this printer for over a month now. I read the same reviews and had concerns. I don't print very often but I also never turn the printer off. It has not caused any problems for me and is always ready to go.

- Answer Ink Ready, means you have to sign with HP Instant Ink Program. Prices are very low, If you only print about 100 pages a month, then you are only paying $2.99 a month that's about $35.88 a year. When you ink gets half way empty, your print orders the ink for you and it comes to your home. No more going to the store buying ink. The ink will be in your mailbox before you run out.

QuestionCan I use both the USB connection (PC to printer) and the Wifi connection (iPhone to printer)? Or, is it one or the other? I prefer the direct connection (wifi goes out frequently), but I also print from my phone so need both options.

- Answer Printing needs to be initiated from your computer or device. Copying, however, can be done through the screen menu. Under Copy, choose the Gear icon (Settings) to access Resize options.

- Answer Yes, It scans all the pages you put in at one time as one document for PDF's. The printer can scan to email.

- Answer If you belong to Instant Ink and use a non-Instant Ink cartridge, it may not recognize the cartridge. If that is not the problem, the printer head may be clogged with dry ink. HP's history with crappy printer heads dates back years and is not just an issue with this model. The problem is that they can't be replaced without a considerable expense. It is just easier to buy another printer. HP should be taken to barn and taken to task on this issue. I like their printers over other companies printers, but their ink heads go out about every 3 - 5 years for me.

- Answer If your chromebook is on your home network, then it will print to this printer, provided you have made sure this printer is on your home network (the setup process for this printer should put it on your home network). On your chromebook, go to settings, then advanced settings, to be sure your chromebook "finds" this printer on your home network, then choose manage printers, and click the Add printer button to add it. Hope this helps!

- Answer There is only a small amount of “practice” ink in the printer. They should tell you to IMMEDIATELY go purchase a full set of black and color. If you replace the ink, you’ll be fine with your printing process. Your salesperson should have told you that upfront.

- Answer The standard set of HP 902 cartridges each yield on average 300 pages. The high capacity 902XL cartridges yield 825 pages each. The OfficeJet Pro 6978 can also use a third-tier black cartridge--the 906XL--that lasts for 1,500 pages!

- Answer Dear Juliav; Yes, I just set one up the other day. My recommendation is to go to www.hp.com and download the latest software from the website, not from the CD that is provided. It makes more sense to take the latest updates and apply them to your system. Should work like a charm. Best of luck.

- Answer The printer is very easy to connect to wi-fi. The menu on the printer makes it very intuitive and easy to hook up. I have had the printer in service on a daily basis for over a month and had no issues whatsoever.

- Answer You can purchase the standard black yield ink cartridge (about $17) or the black 902XL high-yield Ink cartridge (about $37); watch for sales on the cartidges. The standard cartridge prints about 300 pages while the XL prints almost 800. This can be less if you are printing in higher quality.
