“will this printer print in black and white if one color cartridge is empty”

• It may ask you if you want to print grayscale. It is doesn't do that then all ink must be accessible to print.

• It will need all cartridges to print. This is because the printhead always needs some ink present otherwise it could clog which would cause the printer to no longer print properly.
