Slightly tilt tray up or down while gently pushing. Easy once you do it. I had same issue.

The paper tray does not fit flush against the printer, so it should protrude about an inch right under the output tray. If you have removed the paper tray, make sure that you've aligned the tray before pushing it back in. The HP Support YouTube channel has helpful videos and you can see tray placement in action.
