“Does the GPU use the HDMI and MiniDP only? I tried using the USBC to DP cable but it locked the settings to Intel Graphics only. I am trying to get the laptop to connect to my LG UltraGear monitor. If the GPU uses the MiniDP I'll buy one and wait.”

The USB-C port is tied to the Intel GPU, not the Nvidia. The mini DP works with the Nvidia GPU although the switcher for some reason is locked on iGPU. I can, however, adjust all the settings you'd expect to for the external monitor in the Nvidia Control Panel app when plugged into the mini DP although that's not the case using the USB-C port. Also, I played a AAA game using mini DP and the Nvidia is driving it based on the specs (fps, TGP, etc.) and quality of image.
