If your laptop is like my wife's, you will never hit 3440x1440 on the HDMI port. If you have an Intel integrated graphics chip, they just can't get that high. Got a "j5create - USB-C to HDMI 2.1 8K" and now her laptop is able to hit 3440x1440 at 100Hz.

Without knowing what model your laptop is, it's hard to say, but I'd make sure that the HDMI port on the computer supports at least HDMI 2.0
