• You should be able to connect through either one. Try the output on the monitor first. If the quality isn't acceptable for whatever reason, try the audio output on the computer.

• Yes. Audio is routed to the monitor via HDMI and then to the audio out jack. I'm was also able to listen via my onboard laptop speakers before I got my external speakers connected.
