You can lay the computer on its side as long as you make sure the ventilation openings are not blocked. Usually one side of a computer has no ventilation for just that purpose. As for the cable to connect the monitor to the computer - the cables only come with the monitor. Good luck.

Also, a cable does not come with this PC. It must be purchased separately. It has DVI and VGA ports and is capable of a dual monitor setup. I hope this helps.
