• You should be able to replace the 2nd generation processor with a 3rd generation, but that's as far as you can go. The 4th generation processors used a different socket, so at that point you'd have to replace the motherboard as well.

• You don't need to change the CPU. The machine runs well just like it is. The only suggestion I have is to load Linux.
