“Is this an outdated (model not in use) printer? If yes would it mean that the cartridges won’t be available? Also how long is protection plan valid? In case the printer does not work if taken with protection plan then can it be replaced?”

Newer model. Instant Ink capabilities and Google integration. No worries on that. Best Buy offers their 30 day thing if it doesn't physically work. Mine was great.
