Great question! The Optane memory isn't actually part of the drive-it's a cache designed to quickly provide data to the processor that's already been read from the hard drive. Between the two, I would say that the m.2 drive is better: It's smaller, it uses less power, and because it's directly connected to the motherboard, the signal path is shorter so it can transfer data more quickly.
