• Yes, it is designed to work with the new MacBook Pro. Plugging the adaptor into those two ports allows you to expand out.

• Yep - M1 MacBook Pro custom build here, and it works flawlessly with my machine. Currently writing this with all ports minus the HDMI in use, and it handles data transfer at max rate when hooked up to my ExtremeSD cards or backing up 4K video to my USB3 SSDs.
