Not Perfect But It Works
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This hub works on my MacBook Pro. I can power up the laptop and I can attached flash drives and read photos from my camera via the the up's built in card reader. These are the positives. The design holds well to the macBook, but the cover cannot close properly due to the docking station's plastic attachment. The design of the hub does not match up with the lines of the MacBook making the fit precarious. I have used two hubs not labeled as Apple Products. This is the best I've used to date, and for the price this hub works, but it isn't a perfect fit.

Good cost + option for external monitor
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been trying to get more use out of my M1 2020 macbook pro and wanting to use an external monitor. Got this USB hub to not only add USB's to the setup (mainly because I don't have a lot that just uses USB C) Between bluetooth and USB A I am covered now. Bonus was getting a HDMI so I can out put to an external monitor. I have a Dell 27' 2k monitor and enjoy it very much so this made it easy for my setup to connect to it and use it now with my macbook. Not a lot of additional things needed and was a cheaper option then buying a USB C docking station. Comes with a adapter as well if you don't want it to be connected on the side of the macbook. FYI fits prefect on my 2020 M1 macbook pro with no issues. In the box comes the adapter plus a nice soft carrying case if you need to throw it in a book bag or your backpack.

Great upgrade to the original MacBook USB-C Hub!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using and loving the original Kickstarter version since 2017 so I felt that it's time for an update and this new 2020 version did not disappoint. This new 2020 version addressed all the minor issues I had with the 2017 Kickstarter version. - It now supports 4K60Hz HDMI (was previously 4K30Hz) - New magnetic grip (now the hub feels more stable and secure on the MacBook) - It now finally works with MacBook cases (just remove the grip) - Both USB-C ports now support pass-through charging - MicroSD card goes all the way into the hub - Now includes an USB-C extension cable (so you can use it with any USB-C device, not just the MacBook - Free leather pouch to keep everything nice and neat I have been using this 2020 version for more than a week and absolutely love it. There are many copycats in the market that copied the 2017 version so they still have the same old issues. HyperDrive has always been a pioneer and probably just came out with the best USB-C hub for the MacBook Pro/Air. Absolutely Recommended!

Incredibly useful!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great product that allows you to charge extra devices and/or utilize a mouse that comes with a USB - whatever needs you may have for the available ports. The only downside Is that you can not charge your computer while using the docking station since it blocks the pc charging port. I so also have to take off the magnetic strip when in use as it doesn't fully connect to my MacBook when it's on. I think my computer is just a bit too thick for it.

Perfect for minimalists.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect expansion for the macbook air. Only downside is that with the black plastic piece you are unable to shut the macbook completely however it is magnetic and removable.

Very useful hub
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HyperDrive Hub has ports for practically all phones and tablets out on the market. it clicks into the laptop strongly like it has teeth inside that clamp down. It also has an HDMI port to connect an additional monitor or even your living room's t.v. The two slots in the center are for a micro sd card, and for the larger sd cards that typically go into DSLR camera such as Canons or Nikons. The material is a strong metal and the gray is the same as my space gray laptop. Cons: -The black magnetic bar it comes with does not allow the screen to close fully. If you close the screen everyday, like I do, you have to use this without the black bar otherwise you'll be unplugging it everyday. -With it in use with an additional monitor and other ports such as the usb, the device gets really hot. I have a laptop stand with a fan that I keep on during use to help cool it down. -Does not have a port for ethernet. It would be a complete hub with an ethernet port. I could only wish.

Perfect for the MacBook!
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was a life saver! I’m someone who creates content and needs a lot of storage space for videos and photos so, using this with my external hard drives on my MacBook has been great!

Q: QuestionDoes this have an Ethernet port?
Asked by lizjohn.
- A:Answer No. Other models in the HyperDrive lineup do BUT BE AWARE that the HDMI ports on those units are only 4k@30Hz. This new model here is 4k@60Hz. Important to know what you are sacrificing.

Q: QuestionThe photo here on Best Buy for the previous HyperDrive Duo shows 1 Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 Type A ports but the description shows USB 3.0 Type A ports and TWO Thunderbolt 3 ports, and for this one there is no mention of Thunderbolt 3 ports nor USB 3.1?
Asked by PleaseClairfyPorts.
- A:Answer The 40Gbps port is indicative of Thunderbolt 3 speed. So just like the original HyperDrive Duo, this one has one USB-C port capable of delivering Thunderbolt 3 speeds (as long as you're using an appropriate Thunderbolt 3 cable and the device you're plugging in is also Thunderbolt 3-compatible) plus 100W of Power Delivery, and one USB-C port capable of delivering 5Gbps speeds (plus 60W of Power Delivery, which the first version did not support on this port). As for the USB-A ports, you need to understand that "USB 3.0" and "USB 3.1 gen 1" are basically synonymous. They mean the same thing. So whether it says 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1, it means that the ports are capable of 5Gbps (you don't get to the next speed tier, 10Gbps, unless you have USB 3.1 gen 2). Nothing has changed in that regard on the new version. The company that makes this device, Sanho, only markets the new version's USB-A ports as "5Gbps" on their website (they don't use 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1 terminology), so they basically remain unchanged. So, overall, the only real difference in the ports between the old and new versions of the HyperDrive Duo is that the 5Gbps USB-C port now can deliver up to 60W of power, and supposedly the HDMI port is capable of delivering up to 4K @ 60Hz instead of just 4K @ 30Hz (which was not my experience, however ... see my posted review).

Q: QuestionWill the USB Type A port(s) power an Apple SuperDrive? Their DVD/CD reader/writer?
Asked by Scott.
- A:Answer You can not connect it through regular usb. You will need a message on your laptop “not enough power for Apple accessories” Solution- you need to purchase usb-c adapter for the drive and use the top usb-c port on the hub.

Q: QuestionWill the USB a ports provide power? I need to plug in my audio interface which uses USB A to provide phantom power to my xlr mics
Asked by Dash.
- A:Answer I do not believe this will work. As with apple devices, such as a SuperDrive that requires power through USB, it shows a message on screen that the port does not provide enough power for connected device. You may want to try using a usb A to usb C adapter and using the power pass through port.
