• If it is anything like my MacBook Pro, no you can not shut the lid with it plugged in unless you are willing to take off the dark gray piece which is meant to support the device (but also stops the lid from closing). I would highly recommend you not remove the gray piece because then the device and all your cables and accidental bumps WILL destroy your USB ports.

• Yes, it will, but this will have to do with tweaking the Mac OS settings to allow it.
