I do not believe this will work. As with apple devices, such as a SuperDrive that requires power through USB, it shows a message on screen that the port does not provide enough power for connected device. You may want to try using a usb A to usb C adapter and using the power pass through port.

I have a Focusrite Scarlet Solo 3rd gen connected to one of the USB A ports and an XLR mic connected to that and it's working fine . I've also got an Arturia Microfreak synth running on it, which is in-turn routing through the audio interface. That requires a substantial amount of power and even has its own 12 volt power supply in case you can't run it directly off of USB. Even with both of those connected and Ableton and some other apps running, I've got the 96 watt power supply going through the hub as well and the battery is charging.
