It is good that you are doing research first! It comes with enough RAM for most people, however, it is up-gradable if you require it later. I would say stick to what is provided, as you will not require more than 16 GB, unless you are doing some serious video editing or graphic design.

Basically, you match the memory type to what the motherboard accepts. ddr4 is a common type, currently. The maximum processing speed may vary within memory types. It runs on dual channel, no matter how many slots are filled, 2 or 4. This is a feature of the memory. This machine has slots for 4 'sticks' of memory, with 2 of them filled with 8GB sticks. You would commonly use 8's or 16's in these slots. They are populated in pairs.
