“It says this works with a battery, and I have a new battery inserted, however every time I plug this to try and use a battery to operate it, it turns off. How am I supposed to get it to work without it being plugged in?”

The backup battery will maintain the time and alarm settings in the event of a temporary power interruption (the display is NOT maintained/there will be NO display). It operates the buzzer alarm if the power is out. The unit will not operate other functions on battery backup power. The unit must be connected to a working power outlet.
