• The phone comes with it's own screen protector so buying an additional one is not necessary. I never expected it to protect against impact but only against scratches and stray drops of water etc.

• No. Instead it provides a ledge around the screen that prevents the screen from touching the surface when the phone is placed on a table. Today, phone screens have hard covers such as Gorilla glass that make clear covers a waste of money. A additional screen cover can NOT protect a screen against drop damage. Place some saran wrap over your hand and then smash your hand with a hammer. The saran wrap provides zero impact protection.
