“Is the TV itself able to rotate at all when attached to the stand? I need to be able to see the screen from a couple different angles in the room and would rather not mount on the wall if I can avoid it but place it on a stand instead.”

One thing you could do is buy an aftermarket TV base that has the ability to rotate side to side. There are many out there for less than $100. They attach to the back of the TV and replace the TV's factory base. Just make sure it rotates, not all them do, although they all have the ability for you to change the height which is nice also. I am planning on buying one for my LG TV that has a stock TV base that is too wide for my current TV stand.
