I haven't looked into the authenticity of the ICs in the two units I have, but they both identify themselves as Prolific PL2303, and they both seem to work fine. The product works for me out-of-the-box with all recent Linux distributions I've tried it on, x86 and Raspberry Pi -- no additional drivers needed. Shortly after it's connected, a TTY device should be created automatically as /dev/ttyUSB
, where is a decimal number. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In my previous answer, the last sentence should be: Shortly after it's connected, a TTY device should be created automatically as /dev/ttyUSBn, where n is a decimal number. I originally wrote the n in angle brackets, but that just disappeared (one might guess a failure to quote HTML special characters in the text) and there appears to be no way to edit answers once submitted.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I plugged the adapter into a new windows 10 machine to connect a Spectrophotometer (color identifier) for retail paint solutions. didn't need to run windows update or install any other kind of driver. i can't be sure for older versions of windows, other O.S, ETC. But worked fine for me, just plug and play.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchased this cable for my girlfriend to connect a Stenograph machine to her Windows 7 Laptop. The cable was plug-and-play, and everything worked perfectly without tinkering or downloading additional drivers. She already had the necessary drivers for her Stenograph installed on the PC, so the process couldn't have been easier. Hope that helps!
