Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Line up with Ethernet socket on desktop, push in until it clicks. To remove, press on tab to unlock connector. If it doesn't fit, you are probably trying to plug into a telephone connection (modem) which won't work. Phone connection uses RJ11 jack which has 6 connectors, wired as 3 pairs starting on innermost 2 pins. On single analog phone line two wires are only needed. Ethernet uses RJ45 connectors and can be used for 10/100/1000base-T networks.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The RJ45 is the type of a receptical as is the RJ11 (it's smaller cousin used for landline telephones). The tips or ends (also referred to as the modular connector) of this cable are compatible to be used with your system's RJ45 receptical or port. You insert or plug in the cable end into the RJ45 port the same as you plug in a phone cable into the wall outlet for your home phone. The CAT5 or CAT6 refers to the speed which data can travel through the cable. From my research there is very little difference between the two cables, other then price.
