“I'm looking for an emergency charger in the event there is an electrical outage (like for an earthquake), so I am concerned how long it lasts? Can you charge it and not use it until you have an emergency situation?”

It seems to hold a charge pretty well. I haven't had mine very long, so cannot say how long a full charge lasts (without use) before the charge drops off. Of course, you could charge it at the beginning of each month to make sure it is fully charged. After a couple of months, you should be able to tell how long a full charge lasts before the powerpack needs to be recharged.
