I have similar setup. If you have optical connection on TV I can verify it works with both DVD player and cable box. With optical cable the TV remote controls volume.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No it only works and hooks upto 1 component at a time.

It depends on the type of connections you have on your DVD player and cable box. This speaker can be connected via Bluetooth to a device that can pair with a Bluetooth speaker. There are RCA connections available to connect that way and there is a headphone to RCA adapter if you have a headphone jack. It also has an optical connection, but I'm guessing that you would need to use that from your TV. You can switch between the different connections using the remote that comes with the speaker or by pressing a button on top of the speaker. Regardless of how you connect it, only one connection type can be active at a time. So, if you can connect to your cable box using one type of connection and to your DVD player using a different type of connection, you can switch between them by pushing a button. I hope that helps.
